Week 3 Viewing Guide

Hello Idol fans!

I am very happy to report that the theme this week will NOT be the third week in a row of Beatles songs or, rather “songs I’ve never heard because I’m too young”. Instead I am THRILLED to report that the theme is “songs from the year you were born” or rather “The best of my 7th grade mix tape!”

It’s going to be 80’s all the way…

With just 2 exceptions: something from the 70’s by Michael Johns and something from the 90’s by Baby Archuleta!

Let’s start with these two “odd men out”. I’m not sure MJ can pull off something from the 70’s, specifically 1978. 3 of the top 10 songs from that year were by the BEE GEES and I think that might spell disaster.

Archuleta has it easier… will he play it safe with “Another Day in Paradise” by Phil Collins or show off his higher range with “It must have been love” by Roxette?

To be honest, either way, I think he’ll do fine this week. However, I would like to pose a question to the pool -

If you had to choose your American Idol TODAY, would it still be David Archuleta?

Let me know on the blog…

And now on to the 80’s…

What special pants will we have in store this week?!?

How sad that we won’t get to see AMANDA in an 80’s rocker chick get-up… ok, not that sad.

Brooke and Carly were both born in 1983 – something tells me we’ll hear TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART (not safe for work) this week – Have we heard this song since Season 4?

Ramiele, Jason and Syesha were all born in 1987. Jason, after last week’s version of “Michelle”, I cannot recommend that you choose ”C’est La Vie” by Robbie Nevil although it topped the charts in your birth year. And girls, please please PLEASE NO Whitney Houston.

David Cook will sing something from 1982 and it would bring a tear to my eye if he did the right thing and chose a John Cougar song.

Kristy lee cook was born in 1984. I know I would love to hear the country version of “Jump” by Van Halen, but she is going to play it safe and bust out Footloose or Karma Chameleon, by Culture Club. Either way, she’ll be wearing a plunging V-neck situation and she may make it through another week.

Here’s my comment about Kristy Lee. I know many in the pool want her voted off ASAP, but she is better looking and has a better voice than Kelli Pickler, so where does that leave us?

Lastly there is Chikezie, born in 1985. Wham? Or Hall and Oates? Don’t know, kinda don’t care…

This week can really go either way – but I’m going to bet it WON’T be the best episode
of the season. Will they jazz it up with baby pics? Will the hair and make-up be out of control? Let’s find out!

Final note - look for former American Idol Pool participant Chris Serico on Wednesday night's show! Chris wrote into AI HQ to let us know that

There's a chance (but a pretty good one) I'll be on Wednesday's results show for "American Idol" for 2 or 3 seconds.

While interviewing Season 2 second runner-up Kimberley Locke for überlocal TV, the "Idol" film crew showed up. Although I knew they would be arriving to film the "Where Are They Now" segment for Wednesday night's results show, I didn't think the producer who showed up would be interested in filming my interview of her. The producer said she loved the set-up and asked me to sign an "Idol" waiver, which I did.

So, I'm not claiming I'll be on camera for very long... if at all. Vegas is posting an over/under of 2.3 seconds total. But I'd say there's a very good chance you'll see my blurry face as the camera pans to Kimberley Locke during Wednesday's results show, which as you know starts at 9 p.m. EST.

I leave you with 3 words…. Paula, shut up.

I will totally vote for whoever sings "Total Eclipse of the Heart" but if someone sings "Turn Around" I will TURN OFF THE TV!

That one is for all the Sharps on this list. :)

I LOVE THE 80'S!! ROCK ON!

I heard from a good source that Brian Sheehan was called in to do the arrangement for Alone this week...

What exactly is Paula wearing and why is she wearing it?

OK, I've gotta call Simon out on his clear favoratism of Brooke White. He SO let her off the hook for that lame-ass performance that added NOTHING to the original "Every Breath You Take." Simon just wants to bone this poor girl. Dude--she's got a fiance!

I actually thought that Jason's take on Fragile was far more original. He did some nice things with the melody toward the end, and even though Sting already did the Spanish treatment on that song, it's obscure enough where it appeared that Jason was being somewhat inventive. Yet Randy and Simon both said that there was nothing original about it. Yeah, the guy is uncomfortably awkward, in a Mary Catherine Gallagher sort of way. But he's got talent.

Oh, and Will, Paula is wearing wrist braces disguised as designer fashion, because she came down with carpal tunnel syndrome after awkwardly clapping several nights a week for the past seven years.

Jon, totally agree with you about Fragile and Simon's comments about Jason and Brooke.

Brian must be hating this episode with two Sting songs so far....

I'm also curious about Paula's dress - it's unevenly cut. One side makes it to her shoulder and the other doesn't. I have no idea why she thought that outfit was a good idea.

Hadn't noticed the dress. Very astute observation.

I didn't realize Brian was anti-Sting. Curious...

We should revive the real-time Idol chat. That was fun. Those were the days... Boston Idol Dinner Crew--I miss you all!

They must be really pushing Kristy Lee Cook--they're giving her the last spot?

I'm sorry. I'm over posting. But Kristy Lee. She did NOT just sing that song. Definitely going for the middle America vote there.

OK ok - I stand corrected. I am not voting for Carley simply because she sang Total Eclipse. My vote is for David Cook tonight. Screw the 80's...I HEART DAVID COOK!

On the wardrobe topic, Carley, I love you, but have Spanx not made it in Ireland yet? Paula is wearing one of Kristy Yamaguchi's skating outfits now that she is on DWTS and Kristy Lee would have been better off coming out wearing an American Flag (that's what my hubby thinks anyway).

:)

OK, David Archuleta is going to have to get some consistency here...what in God's name was that song??? (Please, Idol Master, can't I change my vote???) David Cook and Michael Johns are my new picks...they were both SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO amazing. The whole night was good...you've got to admit it people, Kristy Lee gave it an "all American" try!!

Michael Johns is back and I am going to beat you all! Well, a girl can dream, right?
David A is STILL overrated. Please, go find a part on Broadway and leave us alone.

So now I know where David Cook finds all the arrangements that he rips off--they're right on iTunes!
