American Idol Viewer's Guide - Songs of Cinema

Kris Allen stars in "All cute Jesus loving shirtless forgettable dogs go to Heaven".

I feel as if these past few weeks I've wanted to say a little prayer that the Idols would take on famous songs from the movies. My prayers have been answered! I mean, what a feeling it must be to be footloose and fancy free on the stage with some amazing songs to choose from. It would certainly take my breath away to know that somewhere out there is a song that would help me achieve the fame I know I deserve.

Now that the beauty & the beast, Megan Joy and Scott McIntyre, have been given the boot, the final 7 contestants are sure to put their heart and soul into each and every performance. With Scott's departure, Danny Gokey wrote Idol Pool Headquarters with this fantastik quote:

Scott, I just want to thank you for the memories that we created. Although we'll never be the way we were, exactly, I know that the American Idol summer tour will reunite all of us and we'll all be up where we belong -- on the stage!

There has been a lot of discussion about Adam Lambert's chances of winning this whole thing. His critics believe that his voice isn't right for this type of competition, but better on broadway. I disagree -- I like the way he gives the camera the look of love. And that voice! All I know is that I will follow him anywhere. When it comes to Adam, will his endless love be a man or woman? Call me irresponsible for injecting my own personal opinion, but I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Let's hear it for the boys!"

As time goes by, I get more and more excited about Alison. I feel as if she's been given the shaft over the weeks when she ends up in the Bottom 3. I mean, who cares about the way you look tonight? The competition isn't about fashion. You are consistently strong and when it comes to a power ballad, nobody does it better. One thing's for sure, whenever you finish a song, I look at Debbie the Intern and exclaim, "now THAT'S entertainment!"

And I'm sort of over Danny Gokey's heart and soul. I mean, could this guy get any cheesier? He can sing, sure, but sometimes I just want to put down my food and throw my chopsticks at the TV. Isn't it romantic when I put this great song to a Jamaican beat, you ask? My answer: no. Unless you stick to old time rock and roll, you won't get to those final rounds.

Oh, Lil, how you disappoint. What's up with all that jazz about how you've got that big old voice and can sing endlessly? I think you're overrated. My friend, Alfie, really wants you to win, but I just don't think it is in the cards. With Lil's placement in the bottom 3 last week, no one here at AIPH is sure how long she'll be staying alive. Que sera, sera, sister...

Although I could have danced all night to Matt Giraud's performance last week, and I believe it when he says "I got rhythm", I just think that his inconsistency will come to plague him in the next few weeks. One of my favorite things about Matt is his strength in certain songs, but whenever he gets too contemporary, he loses me. Stormy weather is moving your way, buddy...

I wouldn't want to rain on anyone's parade, but is Kris Allen not the most forgettable person of this season? I almost forgot to put him in this week's post! I'll probably fight the power of the young teenage girl voting demographic, but I think Kris is a little less sunrise and a little more sunset each week. Still, I'm sure every week Kris is thanking heaven for little girls and their ability to text.

Everybody's talkin' in our pool about how they hope that Anoop goes home this week. Anoop, I will always love you for your sweet ballads, but R&B just simply isn't working for you. And when you're doing those ballads, try not to let your eyeballs roll back into your head - it makes it seem as if you lose yourself everytime you sing slowly. I hope you ain't too proud to beg for some votes, Noop-Dog.

I've had the time of my life writing this week's post. Come what may, this is bound to be a tremendous week for the competition. Will it be an enchanted evening for some? Tonight, somewhere in America, a young child will hear the sound of music and pick up the phone to dial and vote. Will it be you?

I'm going to predict that tonight it's going to rain on Anoop's parade.

Each week the viewer guide is creative, entertaining, and right on!
Great job, Idol Master!

Example #1,000,000 why the judges definitely prepare their comments after the dress rehearsal - Danny Gokey completely missed his note starting the 2nd verse (it was a total trainwreck), and neither Paula nor Simon called him on it.

Mad props to Steve Van Zandt!!!

I think that the IPM was right on again this week with the exception of Kris Allen. I don't think he was forgettable at all and I think his vocal chops definitely stood up. I'm actually nervous for Alison. I think she's great, but I think going 1st is going to hurt her this week.

Kris Allen was the best performance of the night- hands down.
Randy is high.

was anyone else bored by tonight? And there is SO much to pick from. Come on people- Brian Adams twice in one show?
Ugh.
ps- can someone PLEASE tell Allison to open her eyes when she sings?
pss- did anyone else feel like they were in church when Lil sang ' The Rose'?

Man, what a crap week, IMHO. The exception, for me, was actually Anoop Dog, who made me say, "Wow." I still wouldn't buy his album, but he deserves to weather another week. What do you make of a show where Anoop delivers the best performance of the night?

Adam was entertaining and on key, though his skipping around was a bit at odds with rocking out; so Simon was right about the Rocky Horrow Picture Show reference.

My girl Allison stumbled enough that I'm worried for her, but since I still like her I'm glad the judges' comments had little to do with the performances we saw (as Will mentioned). Danny & Matt were not strong this week either, and Lil was weak as usual.

IPM, all I could see was that half-dog/half-boyband face when I was watching Kris sing (rather poorly) this week --and I could've sworn he howled a little at the end.

Has anyone seen the movie 'once', btw? worth seeing? I've never even heard of it.

If you love the Frames, indie films, Irish/Czech relationships, and great music, then Once is for you!

Seriously, the film is definitely worth seeing, and I'm glad that at the very least Kris brought a great song from a small movie to the mainstream.

The soundtrack is great great stuff.

I second Will...one of my favorite movie soundtracks ever...Glen Hansard can sing his effing Irish face off...Another movie he was in long ago worth checking out if you haven't is The Commitments.
