Nice to see Paula do something useful, for a change --best choreo we've seen so far!

All the live singing tonight (has-been medley, boring Archie song, etc.) was fairly horrendous, so the choreo w/lip-sync was the bright spot for me.

Man, I hope Allison keeps hangin' in there...

I didn't know KC from KC & The Sunshine Band was a fat guido like me. And how did he get those Staten Island strippers as dancers?

Why the head mics if they are going to lip-sync...who do they think they are fooling. I thought the group song was awful. I listened to a few bars of David A and had to fast forward...awful!! Otherwise, this is shaping up to be a great end to the season!

Why do the men do so much better than the women during Idol, but the female winners seem to do much better post Idol? Is it because for a woman to win American Idol, she has to be truly spectacular, and the men can skate by on charm (sorry Taylor)? I'm just bummed about the lack of solid female representation in AI, even though I do think the men are great this time.

Since it's quite hard to win this pool, aiming for dead last (Judy with 137, worse than the 182 expected by chance) might have been a reasonable break-even strategy. How hard would it have been to beat Judy to last place?

If you were to rank contestants at random, 137 is approximately the 10th percentile (while 228 is the 90th) of the score distribution, which has mean (SD) = 182 (35).

If Tom L. or Katie had reversed their rankings, they'd have maxed out a couple weeks sooner than Judy, with 98 pts (the lowest possible is 91, if your Top 6 all get booted in the 1st 6 weeks, in any order). But since they're still in the running for the top spot, they probably wouldn't have wanted to do that!

Still, the same strategy would have gotten Shira, Brooke, or JC all down to 122 (so many ties since the current scoring system does not differentiate well between relatively poor predictions).

So unless more than one of us aimed for the bottom, it would have been fairly easy to have already maxed out at <137 pts and grab it, apparently.

Dear Derrick,
I don't understand your sorcery. Are you a sorcerer? There's an old Idol Pool adage that states: "taking the go-easy train to go-easy-ville will help you understand the power of go-easy-ness."
Your friend,
Adam Lambert

Dear Derek,

You know an even easier break-even strategy? Don't enter the pool.

Sincerely,
Mike
